Almost a few days back Ishan Kishan led Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win and earned an India recall for the T20 World Cup. He continued his red hot form as Ishan Kishan scored one
of the fastest-ever centuries by an Indian in the List A format against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday.
Ishan Kishan who opened the batting for Jharkhand in T20s had slotted himself at Number 6 in the 50-over format, Kishan walked in at number six at the end of the 38th over and slammed his way through to a sensational century at the Ahmedabad Cricket Ground.
This century is second quickest behind Sakibul Gani’s 32-ball hundred which came today against Arunachal Pradesh, and this knock also pushed Suryavanshi’s 36-ball hundred down to fourth inside the same day’s play. Ishan Kishan’s final score of 125 off 39 balls helped Jharkhand to a massive 412/9, another score of more than 400 today after Bihar’s 574.
There are plenty of records broken today in the first innings in the two games, India’s fastest century list had effectively been moved around in a single day with Sakibul Ghani at the top, Ishan Kishan next, and Suryavanshi fourth. One day, two matches, three centuries and plenty of records broken in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Ishan kishan getting his runs at No. 6 and against a good opposition like Karnataka might help him for ODI recall. Kishan knows well that he may not find a spot in the top-order of the ODI side as there are players like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill for the opening spots. At No. 6, he would be looked at as a finisher and that gives him a direct backup keeper spot with KL Rahul. Currently Rishabh Pant is the backup wicket-keeper but these knocks by Ishan Kishan are hard to ignore.
The ODI side for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand is yet to be picked. With his current form, Ishan Kishan stands a good chance of getting picked. There is no doubt that the selectors would have kept a watch on the VHT games. On the back of Kishan’s century, Jharkhand have amassed a mammoth 412 for nine in 50 overs. Virat Singh scored a blazing 88 off 68 balls and Kumar Kushagra also scored a half century. It is a big score but the conditions are flat and Karnataka have some quality batters which might make this an interesting chase.
