With the Women’s Premier League (WPL) set to hold its first-ever mega auction later this month in the national capital, the talks around the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction are also going around. However,
the IPL 2026 mini-auction is set to take place mid-December, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the IPL General Council are stilling mulling on the date and the venue, which has become the major talking point at this moment.
However, the official broadcasters, JioStar recently confirmed November 15 as the date for retention list announcement, the auction date is still under talks. Although, earlier reports stated that the auction will be held in between December 13 to 15 in India, a later report claimed that the auction will undergo on December 15, but outside India.
IPL 2026 auction to take place on December 15-16: Report
But a latest report has further added fuel to fire with the IPL 2026 mini auction now being speculated to take place on December 15 or 16 in Abu Dhabi. According to sources close to the developments, as stated by India Today, the IPL General Council is finalising the logistics and an official confirmation on the date and venue is set to be revealed in the coming days.
If so happens, this will be the third straight year that the IPL auction will be held overseas, following the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai and the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Moreover, several franchise representatives and officials have confirmed that Abu Dhabi has been finalised as the venue with an official communication being made shortly.
Amidst this, all ten franchises are currently working on to finalise their retention list ahead of the November 15th deadline date and will look to finalise their squad on the auction table next month with the best possible options available.
