On this day in 2013, legendary Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar retired from cricket. Playing his final game at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, which is also his home ground, brought the curtains down on a glittering
international career that spanned across 24 years. On November 16, 2013, the ‘God of Cricket’ donned the Indian jersey for one last time in a Test match against West Indies.
After making his debut at the age of 16 years in 1989, the right-hander went on to become one of the most important players in Indian cricket history, etching several records. After 24 years, scoring 34357 runs and 100 centuries, the legendary cricket bid adieu to international cricket, winning the ODI World Cup in 2011 with the Indian side.
Sachin Tendulkar came to the field in Indian jersey on the third day of the Test match as India went on to win the match by an innings and 126 runs giving him a perfect farewell. After the match, Sachin acknowledged the crowd with his emotional farewell speech with the people making wild chants of ‘Sachin, Sachin’ throughout his speech.

During his playing days from 1989 to 2013, he featured in 200 Test matches, amassing 15921 runs at an average of 53.78. Fastest to 15000 runs in Tests: The legendary batter is the only player to have scored the fastest 15000 runs in Test cricket. He reached the feat in November 2011 in a match against West Indies in the national capital (Delhi).
Longest career in ODIs: Sachin Tendulkar retired having a longest ODI career which spanned across 22 years and 91 days, from 18 December 1989 to 18 March 2012.
Most runs in a calendar year: The former Mumbai batter leads the charts of having scored most runs in a calendar year. In 1998, Sachin scored 1894 runs from 34 matches at an average of 65.31 and a strike rate of 102.15.
