Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings face off in what promises to be an exciting battle at Dharamshala in IPL 2026, with a good performance from one player potentially being the difference in this game. For RCB, a win will mean that they can clinch a place in the playoffs as they already boast 16 points from 12 games after Virat Kohli hit an unbeaten hundred against KKR in their previous encounter. On the other hand, PBKS are desperate to cling to hope after failing to perform well recently. Four matches could determine the outcome of this fixture, considering the conditions prevailing.
Overall, the form tables do suggest that RCB are the favorites to walk away with victory in this game. Having recorded back-to-back victories, they currently
lie with 16 points from 12 matches. PBKS certainly have some big match players left but need to deliver in the remaining fixtures.
1. Virat Kohli vs Arshdeep Singh
This is the headline battle. Kohli enters the match after scoring an unbeaten 105 against KKR, his ninth IPL hundred. When he bats deep, RCB usually control the game. However, Arshdeep Singh remains PBKS’s best new-ball weapon. The left-arm pacer will look to use Dharamshala’s early swing to attack Kohli in the powerplay. Yet the numbers strongly favour the RCB star. In T20 cricket, Kohli has scored 101 runs off 58 balls against Arshdeep and has been dismissed only twice. That gives him a strike rate of 174.1 and an average of 50.5.
If Arshdeep removes Kohli early, PBKS gain a major edge. If he does not, RCB could dominate.
2. Josh Hazlewood and the Dharamshala Surface
Pace, bounce, and carry are what Dharamshala provides. Bowlers who generate speed have managed to capture 48 wickets here compared to only 17 by spinners, whose average strike rate is 1 wicket per 17 deliveries. This means Hazlewood poses a serious danger to the opposition. The Aussie pacer operates with hard lengths and extra bounce, a tactic ideal for this ground. Furthermore, Hazlewood is a good match-up for PBKS’s opening batting line-up
Hazlewood, if successful in his six-over quota, may force PBKS to fight a comeback battle, thus exposing their middle order ahead of schedule.
3. The Middle-Overs Spin Contest
The overs between 7-16 will be important in deciding the momentum factor. The PBKS team will look towards Yuzvendra Chahal and Harpreet Brar in restricting the duo of Rajat Patidar and Tim David from scoring freely. Spinners of RCB have an alternative approach to the game. They go for the wicket instead of just defending the boundaries, which proved to be a very effective strategy in their previous matches against Punjab.
The team who can contain fewer boundaries in these overs is bound to take control of the game.
4. Shashank Singh vs RCB’s Death Bowling
If PBKS are in the game after 15 overs, Shashank Singh becomes the danger man. Since IPL 2024, he has scored 377 runs in overs 16 to 20 at a strike rate of 201.60 and has been dismissed only seven times. His unbeaten 61 off 30 balls in the 2025 IPL final against RCB remains a reminder of his finishing ability. He smashed 22 runs in the last over of that match and nearly pulled off the chase.
Therefore, RCB must either dismiss him early or deny him scoring options at the death. If Shashank gets going, PBKS can turn the match in a matter of overs.
