The best debut performance of 2025 has to be Josh Inglis who made a terrific century on debut for Australia in Test against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Josh Inglis made his Test debut for Australia against Sri Lanka,
scoring 102 runs from 94 balls on Day 2 of the first Test in Galle.
Inglis, who had already played 26 ODIs and 29 T20Is for Australia, made his way into the Test side replacing Sam Konstas, with Travis Head promoted to open the batting. Josh Inglis came in at No.5, after Australia had already laid a solid platform, with Steve Smith departing on 141, and Usman Khawaja not too far away from his maiden double century. Inglis could not carry on too long after his century though, dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya on 102 off 94.
Josh Inglis became the 21st Australian batter to hit a hundred on his debut in men’s Tests. The 29-year-old batter smashed a 90-ball hundred as Australia continued their run feast on Day 2 of their first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Josh Inglis also became the first Australian batter since Adam Voges in 2015 to hit a Test hundred on debut. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 102 from just 94 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and a six. He became the third Australian batter after Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith to score hundred or more in the first innings in Galle.
This knock from Inglis was also the second fastest Test century on debut. The record for the fastest Test century on debut still stands with Shikhar Dhawan, for his 2013 effort against Australia took 85 balls to get to the milestone, with West Indies Dwayne Smith, now in third place, taking 93 balls in 2004 against South Africa. Australia posted 600 runs batting first and won the match against Sri Lanka by an innings and 242 runs. It was a very memorable Test debut for Inglis.
