The defending champions Australia Women registered a convincing win over New Zealand Women by 89 runs in the second match of Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Batting
first, Australia Women were bowled out for 326 runs in 49.3 overs. In reply, New Zealand, were bowled out for 237 runs in 43.2 overs.
Coming to bat first after winning the toss, Australia Women were in a tricky situation as they lost their five wickets for 128 runs in 21.2 overs. After that, Ashleigh Gardner took charge of the innings as she shone with a knock of 115 runs off 83 balls hitting 16 fours and one six. Apart from that, Kim Garth played a crucial knock of 38(37) runs as Australia Women. For New Zealand Women Lea Tahuhu and Jess Kerr took three wickets each while Breearne Illing and Amelia Kerr scalped two wickets each.
Sophie Devine’ captain’s knock goes vain as New Zealand Women failed to chase a target of 327 runs
Chasing the target of 327 runs, New Zealand Women got a poor start as they were reduced to 0/2 in 1.3 overs. After that, Amelia Kerr and skipper Sophie Devine added 75 runs for the third wicket. Kerr got out after scoring 33(56) runs while Sophie went on to play a captain’s knock of 112 runs off 112 deliveries hitting 12 fours and three sixes. However, she didn’t get much support from the other end as New Zealand Women kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
At last, New Zealand Women were bowled out for 237 runs in 43.2 overs with more than six overs left to be bowled. For Australia Women, Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineuz took three wickets each while Alana King put two in his bag.
