The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held a day-long 2025 elections on Monday, October 6, in order to re-elect their President and form a new committee to bring reforms and changes, for taking cricket in the country
to newer heights. The election was held at a hotel in Dhaka which consisted of physical votes and e-ballots.
Following the election, the former Bangladesh cricketer and icon Aminul Islam was re-elected as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He was serving as the President of the BCB after taking over the place of Faruque Ahmed in May. This did not come as a surprise for many as he was unopposed for the role. In the same election, the two vice-presidents selected to serve the BCB were Shakhawat Hossain and Faruque Ahmed. These results were announced by Chief Election Commissioner Mohammad Hossain, expressing that he tried to hold a free and fair election.
Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mashud got elected as one of the 23 directors of BCB
The returning officer, Dr Sheikh Jubayed Hasan, stated that 23 directors were elected from three categories as per the BCB constitution - 10 from district and division representatives, 12 from Dhaka clubs, and one from the former players' category. Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mashud was elected to be one of the 23 directors. The former cricketer who led Bangladesh to glory in the 2000s, received a total of 35 votes to secure this position in the category three.
This election was a highly predictable one for the BCB and was just a mere formality to be put on the paper. It will be interesting to see if all of the newly elected members can work together and achieve something beyond imaginations with their Bangladesh national team uplifting their nation’s pride in all formats of the game.
