With the New Zealand side currently hosting West Indies in a multi-format series comprising of five T20Is, three ODIs and as many Test matches, the hosts have been handed a massive blow. Having won the T20I series by
3-1 margin and going up 1-0 in the ODI series, New Zealand will be without veteran all-rounder Daryl Mitchell for the second ODI, scheduled to be played on Wednesday, November 19 at the McLean Park in Napier.
Just days prior to the second ODI, the Black Caps took to X to confirm that Daryl Mitchell will not be travelling to Napier with the side after experiencing discomfort in his thigh while scoring his seventh century in New Zealand’s seven-wicket win against West Indies at Hagley Oval. Moreover, Mitchell had not returned to the field for the second innings and is scheduled to undergo scans on his left groin in Christchurch.
Black Caps call in Henry Nicholls as Daryl Mitchell’s replacement for second ODI
As a result, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have called in Canterbury batter Henry Nicholls as cove, who will assemble with the squad in Napier. Notably, Henry Nicholls has been in hot form for his domestic side in the Ford Trophy competition, leading the run-scoring chart with 306 runs, including back-to-back centuries.
New Zealand’s updated squad for second ODI vs WI:
Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Will Young, Tom Latham (wk), Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (C), Zakary Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Mark Chapman, Henry Nicholls.
