The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar has disclosed the reason for Ravindra Jadeja’s exclusion from India’s ODI squad against Australia. The BCCI announced India’s white-ball team for the Australia tour which will kick off from October 19. Shubman Gill replaced Rohit Sharma as ODI captain while Jadeja, who did a decent job for India in the Champions Trophy 2025, couldn't get a spot in the side. Serving India in the mega ODI event held in Dubai and Pakistan, Jadeja racked up five wickets in five games at a frugal economy of 4.35. As a batter, he scored 27 runs in three innings. He also scored the winning runs for India in the tournament’s final against New Zealand.
During the team announcement, when the media
asked Ajit Agarkar the reason for Ravindra Jadeja’s ouster from ODIs, the 47-year-old said that the veteran isn’t out of the team’s scheme of things but noting the conditions in Australia, the team is carrying extra pacers and the veteran couldn’t make it to the side. "He's very much in the plans. But there will be some competition for places. Of course, he was there in the Champions Trophy squad. Because we took those extra spinners with the conditions there, at the moment, we could only carry one and get some balance in the team with Washi and Kuldeep there as well. And I don't think we're going to need more than that in Australia spin. But he's clearly in the scheme of things, Jaddu, with how good he is, what he offers us as a batter and a bowler, but particularly in the field as well,” said Agarkar.
Ravindra Jadeja shone against West Indies in Ahmedabad Test
Ravindra Jadeja did an extraordinary job for India against West Indies in the Ahmedabad Test. The 36-year-old put up an all-round show and made vital contributions in India’s huge win by an innings and 140 runs. In the first innings, the veteran struck an unbeaten 104 while in the second innings, he bagged 4/54 figures to help the hosts bundle out the Caribbean team on 146.
After facing the ODI snub, Jadeja will look to continue his form in the second Test to be played in Delhi as well. The star all-rounder is 36 and he will look to serve India in the World Cup 2027 and win the title with the team. In 2011, when India won their second title under MS Dhoni, Jadeja couldn’t be a part of the side.
