With the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 underway in the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka, the tournament has been marred with fresh controversy. While the tournament has almost reached its penultimate
stage, it turned into the wrong eyes when two of the Australian women cricketers were molested in Indore after they opted to step out of their team hotel.
As the two cricketers stepped out on the street while they walked towards a cafe, a man on a motorcycle started following them. He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately and rode off. However, when they approached the police, the police personnel after intervening into the matter, caught hold of the accused and has put him in a two-day remand.
Devajit Saikia pledges to tighten security after molestation case in Indore
However, hours after the news broke out, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opened up and condemned the heinous act. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia in a statement, hailed Madhya Pradesh Police for their quick act while aiming to review their existing safety protocol and strengthen the rules. “This is a deeply regrettable and isolated incident. India has always been known for its warmth, hospitality, and care towards all guests. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts,” he said.
“We appreciate the swift and effective action taken by the Madhya Pradesh Police in apprehending the accused. The law will take its due course to ensure justice is served. We will also review our existing safety protocols and strengthen them further, if necessary, to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” Saikia further added.
Apart from Devajit Saikia, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla also condemned the act, calling it a “very unfortunate” episode. “The entire incident is very unfortunate, and we condemn it. Such incidents should not happen. People should take care of foreign players who have come as guests to our nation. Whatever steps need to be taken at the level of BCCI and Madhya Pradesh Cricket, we will take all required steps and precautions. The police have nabbed the accused,” Shukla told ANI.
