Shubman Gill finishes 2025 as the leading run-getter in international cricket. The right-handed batter played 35 matches (42 innings) and scored 1,764 runs at an average of 49, with the aid of seven hundreds
and three half-centuries. Test has been his most productive format this year having taken over the captaincy he was excellent in the format. As usual he continued his fine form in ODIs but fell off in the later half of the year where he could not make much of an impact in Australia series.
Gill was injured and missed the second Test against South Africa and the entire one day series but despite missing those games he manages to end the year as the highest run getter. Gill played nine Tests in 2025, scoring 983 runs at an average of 70.21. He struck 147 against
England in Leeds and followed it up with 269 & 161 in Birmingham and 103 in Manchester. Gill also scored 129* against West Indies in Delhi. In ODIs, he played 11 matches and scored 490 runs at an average of 49, with two tons. Gill struggled in T20Is, scoring 291 runs in 15 matches, with a best of 47. He lost his place for the WT20 next year.
Shubman Gill was named Test captain right before India’s five-match Test series against England (Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy), and he ended up as the highest run-scorer, with 754 runs that included four centuries. He helped India draw the series 2-2 and his batting won him praises from many legends and Experts. Shubman Gill scored his career best 269 in that tour and that performance has elevated his status in the international circuit.
In the list of highest run getters in 2025, Gill is followed by West Indies white-ball captain Shai Hope and Joe Root who have also been exceptional this year. But there are no doubts these players will win some or the other ICC awards for this year. Shubman Gill also had a good IPL 2025 so be it domestic or international this year has belonged to him. He is already touted by many as one of the finest all format player going around and Indian fans will be hoping Shubman Gill does this once again next year.
