Former Indiabatter Robin Uthappa has advised captain Suryakumar Yadav to not experiment with his batting position. This year, Suryakumar has looked completely out of rhythm with his bat. The right-handed
batter has played 13 T20Is in 2025, in which he scored 139 runs in 12 innings at a disheartening strike rate of 116.80. These numbers do not suit Suryakumar as he is known for his formidable batting style while playing at the top order. However, in the first T20I between India and Australia in Canberra, he looked confident as he scored a quick 39 with five boundaries (three fours and two maximums) off just 24.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Robin said that Suryakumar Yadavshouldn’t compromise with his batting position. “If the top three get set, you can bring flexibility after that. You can bring left-right combinations. In the Asia Cup, they probably decided that Tilak Varma would come at No. 3 if a left-hander got out and Surya would come if a right-hander got out. That’s still alright, but Suryakumar Yadav shouldn’t come below No. 4,” remarked Robin.
Suryakumar Yadav expected to continue his batting momentum in remaining T20Is in Australia
Following the confident knock in Canberra, Suryakumar will look to be at his best in the remaining four T20Is as well. At the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), India will strive to be at their best and take a lead in the series. In Melbourne, India have played three T20Is in Australia, in which one has been won by the home side while on two occasions, the Men in Blue emerged triumphant.
Discussing India’s overall record at MCG, the current T20 World Cup champion side have played five matches in which four have been won by the Men in Blue. Suryakumar and his men will look to be at their best again at the illustrious ground.
