On Sunday, November 16, the Indian cricket team suffered a 30-run defeat in the first Test against World Test Champions, South Africa at the Eden Garden in Kolkata. Having put to chase 124-run target,
the Men in Blue fell to Simon Harmer’s spin attack and were reduced to 93/10, going down in the two-match Test series by 0-1 margin.
However, the hosts were reduced to 9-man side after a neck injury on Day 2 had ruled skipper Shubman Gill out of the remainder of Kolkata Test. After complaining of neck spasm on Day 2, which forced him to leave the field after playing just three balls, Shubman Gill did not return to bat for India in the first innings and was confirmed to miss the remainder of the game ahead of Day 3’s play.

However, the red-ball skipper was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata for further examination, he was finally released later on Sunday, November 16 following the conclusion of the first Test. Sources close to the developments have revealed that Gill has returned to the team hotel and is stable and is able to move his neck. However, his is being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team, but doubt looms over his participation in second Test.
With the second Test set to start from November 22 in Guwahati, it remains to be see whether he will recover in time or will either of Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal be given a game. Moreover, the ide will also be boasted by the inclusion of Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was initially released from the squad for the first Test.
