24-year-old Jamaican athlete Oblique Seville on Sunday, September 14 put a perfomance of the ages as he went on to beat Olympic gold-medallist, America’s Noah Lyles in men’s 100m event at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The Jamaican sprinter, who finished with bronze medal wins in Budapest in 2023 and in Eugene in 2022, put up a show as he clinched a gold, defeating his compatriot and world champion Kishane Thompson as well as Olympic champion Noah Lyles.
Hailing from the same nationaly as the legend Usain Bolt, the young sprinte emulated the legend across aspects, clocking his personal best timing of 9.77 seconds. With this win, he became the first Jamaican since Usain Bolt in 2015 to win the men’s 100m race at the World Championships.
While he secured the top podium finish, Thompson finished second with a timing of 9.82, followed by Noah Lyles who secured a bronze clocking 9.89 seconds.
