Aaron Finch, the former Australia captain in limited-overs cricket, is celebrating his 39th birthday on November 17, 2025. Also known by the name ‘Finchy’, during his illustrious career, which spanned
for the better part of 12 years, he won the ODI World Cup at home in 2015 after Australia defeated New Zealand in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). A veteran of white-ball cricket, in ODIs, he played 146 matches, scoring 5,406 runs at an average of 38.89 and strike-rate of 87.73 with 17 hundreds and 30 fifties.
Aaron Finch’s finest innings in 50-overs cricket came in the opening match of the ODI World Cup 2015 against the arch-rivals England when he scored 135 runs, to set the tone for Australia in the home tournament. It is often mentioned that the best format of Aaron Finch during his international career was the ODIs, but he was quite exceptional with the bat in the T20 format, both internationally and at the franchise level, where in 103 T20I appearances for Australia, he scored 3,120 runs at an average of 34.28 and a strike-rate of 142.53, with the highest individual score (172) in the history of the format.

Third most matches as captain in T20Is: Aaron Finch is the joint third to captain his side in most matches in the shortest format of the game. During his T20I playing days from 2014 to 2022, he has captained in 76 T20Is, which is joint third with MG Erasmus of Namibia.
Most runs in a T20I innings by a captain: Aaron Finch’s 172-run knock off 76 deliveries, which came in 2018 against Zimbabwe, makes him the first captain to score most runs in a T20I innings. He continues to lead the charts with this feat, followed by Sikandar Raza, Shaheryar Butt and others. Notably his 76-ball 172 is also the longest individual innings by balls faced in T20I cricket.
Fifth fastest to 3000 runs in T20Is: The former Aussie batter stands fifth in the list of players to reach to fastest 3000 runs in T20Is. While he achieved this feat in a T20I game against England in Perth, he sit behind Mohammad Rizwan, Virat Kohli, Babar Azam and Muhammad Waseem.
