With the talks around the Indian Premier League (IPL) intensifying, franchises are looking to secure the services of some of the best talents available across departments. Not only players, the IPL franchises are also
looking in to rope in the best experienced personnel as a part of the coaching setup. Amidst all this, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have made some big moves in the recent days.
While the franchise first roped in New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson as their strategic advisor ahead of IPL 2026, they then went on to appoint Tom Moody as their Global Director of Cricket after the franchise a few months ago secured the Manchester Originals in The Hundred tournament. But recent reports have revealed that the franchise is set to see another massive change.
Abhay Sharma likely to replace Jonty Rhodes as fielding coach in LSG ahead of IPL 2026
If the reports are to be believed, former Delhi cricketer Abhay Sharma is set to join the LSG side as their fielding coach, replacing Jonty Rhodes. A source close to the BCCI was quoted as saying by PTI, “Abhay has extensive experience working with the leading Indian cricketers and that should come in handy at LSG.” Notably, the 56-year-old has a prior experience after he served with India Under-19 and Uganda national teams.
Moreover, he has also served as the fielding coach of the Indian women’s team. If it comes true, he will join head coach Justin Langer, strategic advisor Kane Williamson and Global Director of Cricket Tom Moody in the support staff. With some new looking faces, the Rishabh Pant-led LSG will look to overturn their last season results, where they finished seventh with six wins and eight defeats to their name.
