Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer shared a piece of advice after the loss in the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. The hosts failed to chase an easy target of 124
runs on day three of the Test match and were bowled out for 93 runs losing the game by 30 runs.
After the match, Team India has been facing a lots of criticism from fans and former cricketers for their poor performance with the bat. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer said that the team didn’t learn the lesson after 0-3 defeat against New Zealand last year and also advised Indian team to prepare pitches like they used to prepare for the home series when Virat Kohli was Test captain of India.
“Looks like we haven’t learned our lesson from NZ series loss. The gap between our spinners and opposition spinners reduces on pitches like this. We need to go back to classic Indian pitches, like the ones in 2016-17 season when Virat was captain and Eng and NZ toured,” wrote Jaffer on his X account.
South Africa lead by 1-0, India on verge of losing Test series at home
South Africa defeated India by 30-run margin in the first Test at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series. After restricting the Temba Bavuma-led side to 153 runs in 54 overs on day three, the hosts could not chase the mere 123-run target, courtesy some brilliant bowling from Simon Harmer, thus losing the game by 30 runs.
Now, South Africa just need a win or a draw in the second Test to register first Test series win in India after 25 years. On the other hand, India, who suffered a humiliating 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand at home, are on the verge of losing another Test series at their own backyard.
