On October 16, 1975 South Africa veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis was born to Mercia and Henry Kallis in Cape Town, South Africa. The Protean made his domestic debut in 1993/94 for Western Province B
at the age of 18. In December 1995, he made his international debut for South Africa with his Test appearance against England in Durban. Almost after a month, he made his ODI debut against the English side in Cape Town. Playing his maiden 50-over match, he scored 38 runs off 65 balls.
In the Cricket World Cup 1999, held in England and Wales, South Africa concluded their campaign in the semi-final. Kallis made a crucial contribution of eight wickets and 312 runs in eight outings. In Tests, Kallis is the fourth-leading run-getter with 13289 runs with 58 fifties and 45 hundreds in 280 innings of 166 matches. Donning the role of bowlers, he bagged 292 wickets in 272 innings. In ODIs, he notched up 11579 runs and 273 wickets.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR lifted their maiden title under Gautam Gambhir and the veteran Protea made a vital contribution with his bat. He amassed 409 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 106.51.
In the final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, he played a match-winning knock of 69 off 49 to help his team chase down a target of 191 and bagged a five-wicket win. After retiring from all forms of cricket in 2014, Kallis rejoined KKR in 2016 as their head coach. He delivered his service to Kolkata from 2016 to 2019 IPL season.
