Life can be mean, strange and can, many a times, unleash a chain of events that can be underlined by uncertainty none saw coming or could never have even predicted. It can all be dark and can get annoying. You wonder why it’s happening to you, in the first place? And many a times sport can mimic life as well as not in the best of circumstances. But maybe as Suryakumar Yadav you wonder about the darkness and sadness of it all as well and still don’t carry any grimace after the ill that’s been done to you and instead opt out for peace and carry good wishes for your cricketing comrades.
But make no mistake; while that can happen to anyone when it comes to finding uncertainties and gloom but not everyone can be cheerful or express no distaste of
it all because not everyone is a certain Suryakumar Yadav.
For someone who hit multiple centuries in T20 international cricket as a player, upped the ante of scoring at both home and foreign pitches and often single handedly repaired broken innings (even if that meant saving India from near certain embarrassment in the T20WC ‘26 v USA where all the top and middle order collapsed), and anchored the team brilliantly to lift a T20 World Cup title- earlier this year at home in India- being dropped from the very team in which he led India to their title wasn’t the best treatment possible.
Harsher things may not have always and didn’t happen before to the belligerent right hander.
And yet, in the light of the polite, encouraging and kind hearted message he delivered on social media, one gets to see the kind of support and wishes the batter has for the team for which his heart beats and for which he feels passionately and deeply so! It’s a team he no longer is a part of.
I'm very happy for the team and wish them nothing but the very best, always. I know the boys are giving it their all, and they will always have my full support.”
But having said that, the T20 2026 World Cup winning India captain also underlined the importance of clarifying a certain issue that falsely had dragged his name onto a statement he never really offered in the first place. Offering clarity over it- Surya stated: "I've also noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorised any such statement. Please don't believe or share unverified information.” And in so doing, the batter and former captain highlighted the need to stay true and not draw cricketers into false statements or stereotypes, which is not unnecessary and unfair.
Suryakumar Yadav’s elimination from the team this year is still perhaps one of the most debatable and disappointing subjects in that with fitness, talent and keenness still on his side, the veteran batter could still have been persisted with.
But with much due respect to Indian cricket’s selectors and their flair for taking sudden and even extreme calls, Sanju Samson’s drop coming just hours ago, who can ever doubt their capacity for creating debate? What do you think?
