With the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 reaching its penultimate stage, in the final, reigning champions India will lock horns with Pakistan on Sunday, September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
While the Men in Blue are unbeaten so far in the tournament, their arch-rivals Pakistan have registered only two defeat, both of which have come against India.
As the Indian team will look to put the right combination for the finale, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan raised concerns on skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s form. Notably, the Indian T20I captain has only amassed 71 runs across the five innings, including his unbeaten 47 which came against Pakistan in the group stage.
If his bat performs, his captaincy will also benefit: Irfan Pathan on Suryakumar Yadav
Speaking with the broadcasters, former India all-rounder highlighted the connection between his performance with the bat and captaincy. “If his bat performs, his captaincy will also benefit. Getting out while attempting in sweep is a concern. This has been the pattern throughout the year. He has played one or two innings in international cricket, but runs have been scarce. The IPL was outstanding, but he hasn’t replicated that form in internationals,” Irfan Pathan said on Sony Sports.
It is to be noted that the Mumbai batter is coming off a brilliant Indian Premier League (IPL) season, where he amassed 711 runs across 16 innings for Mumbai Indians (MI). However, his performance in international cricket has been the same. In international circuit, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 99 runs from 10 innings at a strike rate of 110.
