A close win that felt like a miracle happened in the 2016 WT20 where India faced off Bangladesh at Chinnaswamy stadium. India were batting first and started cautiously in the powerplay scoring 42 runs
in the powerplay as Rohit Sharma fell in the last ball of the sixth over as India were 42/1 at the end of six overs. Shikhar Dhawan too fell immediately as India were reduced for 45/2. Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina formed a good partnership but Kohli fell as India were 95/3 in the 14th over. India unfortunately did not get the final flourish they wanted and from 112/3 they collapsed to 117/6 as Bangladesh came back into the game. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni provided a decent finish as India ended up with 146/7 at the end of the first innings. It was a below par total on a good surface and now it all depend on the bowlers to deliver.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh lost their first wicket or 11 but soon a partnership was built and they reached 55 before losing the second wicket. Bangladesh suddenly started to score quickly and reached 87/3 in the 11th over and needed only 60 runs in the last nine overs. But then the spinners provided the choke and a couple of wickets fell as Bangladesh were 126/6 and needed 16 runs of the final two overs.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled a great 19th over as he gave away only six runs and Bangladesh needed 10 runs of the final over. Hardik Pandya had a poor start to the final over as he gave away two boundaries in three balls and the equation came down to two runs needed of three balls. Mushfiqur Rahim who hit the boundary started celebrating as Bangladesh were almost close to an upset. But what followed was unbelievable stuff.
Rahim was caught in the deep midwicket and Bangladesh needed 2 runs of 2 balls. The next ball, Mahmudullah got caught in the deep and suddenly the equation was 2 of 1 ball. MS Dhoni removed one of his gloves ahead of the final ball. Hardik Pandya came into bowl and the batter missed it and they tried to sneak in a bye but MS Dhoni who had a glove off ran to the stumps and made a run-out as India won a thriller by one run. It was sheer moment of brilliance from MS Dhoni. Watch the video here.
