Cricket is the most popular game in India and people in the sub-continent can be seen playing the game on streets and local grounds. Team India legends such as Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yashasvi Jaiswal grew up playing the gentlemen’s sport on streets and local grounds. Ashwin also released a book ‘I Have the Streets’ in 2024, in which he revealed that his journey in the sport started with India’s streets. In May 2018, prominent names such as Zaheer Khan, Brett Lee, and Jonty Rhodes were seen promoting local cricket on streets and grounds in Mumbai. In 2024, street cricket saw a massive development in the country when the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) was launched.
These facts clearly show that street cricket is
a crucial part of India’s sports lovers. Recently, a video is going viral on social media in which a batter can be seen attempting to play a shot on the local ground but his leg gets dragged by the wicket-keeper who gets him dismissed through the hit wicket. The stumper was seen cheating and the batter appeals against his dismissal to the umpire. An interesting fact is that the wicket-keeper was seen wearing the number seven jersey. MS Dhoni has worn the same number jersey for years while serving India in international cricket and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Team India to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025
Amidst the viral video, eyes are set on Team India, who will take on Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 game, set to be played in Dubai on September 14. This year, both arch-rivals will be seen against each other for the second time. Earlier, in February 2025, India outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played in Dubai.
It will be India’s first T20I game against the Men in Green after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from cricket’s shortest form. Ahead of the high-octane game, there are reports that match tickets haven’t been completely sold yet. Amidst these developments, boycott calls are also going viral on social media.
