Chennai Super Kings who went into the auction with the second-largest purse of ₹43.40 crore had a good day at the office making some surprisingly high bids for Indian uncapped players. They made Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma the joint-most expensive uncapped players in the IPL. Prashant Veer became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL after CSK bought him for ₹14.2 crore. Soon after, Kartik Sharma also joined him in the CSK squad at the same price. These two were the biggest picks from CSK in this auction.
They also brought leg-spinner Rahul Chahar for Rs 5.20 crore. Overseas buys included Akeal Hosein and Matt Henry, both acquired for Base Price at Rs 2 crore, while Matthew Short added further depth to the squad Sarfaraz Khan was brought in for Rs 75
lakh in the accelerated round to bolster the middle order, with Aman Khan and Zak Foulkes completing the squad. Chennai Super Kings have covered batters, all-rounders and bowlers very well in this auction but one concern will be not picking up any renowned overseas power hitter as finisher. CSK struggled in the last season down the order and once again the bottom half is lacking firepower.
