Former Team Indiapacer Varun Aaron has called out Team India’s decision to demote wicket-keeper Sanju Samson against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match. In the contest against Samson didn’t
get a chance to bat. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel were sent ahead of him to bat. Earlier, Samson struggled against Pakistan on September 21. In the high-octane match, the Men in Blue were chasing 172 and Samson was sent at number five. The 30-year-old could score only 13 off 17. Against Bangladesh, Samson could’ve regained confidence but he didn't get a chance to face bowlers.
Aaron feels Team India management should’ve trusted Sanju Samson instead of Shivam Dube at number three as the former could’ve been effective at number three as he enjoys batting at the top-order. “They thought they could get Dube on to take down the spinners. But Sanju Samson is another option; he could have been slotted in early today. We know how he enjoys (batting) slightly up top,” remarked Aaron.
India to take on Sri Lanka in final Super 4 match in Asia Cup 2024
After thrashing Bangladesh, India have become the first team to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2025. The Men in Blue will next square off against Sri Lanka in the final match of the Super 4 stage. Sri Lanka will play for pride while India will strive to beat the 2014 T20 World Cup champions and gain more confidence before the final.
India will either take on Bangladesh or Pakistan in the final of the tournament. In the Asia Cup history, India and Pakistan have never played finals against each other. If the Men in Green get the better of the Bangla side in Dubai on September 25, they will take on India for the third time in the same tournament.
