Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan, the Afghan Atalans are on a tour of Zimbabwe. While the series commenced on October 20 with one-off Test at the Harare Sports Club, the two teams will now lock
horns in a three-match T20I series, set to be played from October 29 to November 2.
However, just days after Afghanistan went down against Zimbabwe by an inning and 73 runs in the Test, their head coach Jonathan Trott could not resist and slammed the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). The former cricketer launched a scathing attack at ACB after the humiliating defeat and cited lack of communication as the main concern.
No communication with the top management of the ACB: Trott
Speaking to Zimbabwe’s news outlet Sportscast, Trott said, “The sad thing for me is that I haven’t been able to have any input on the squad. I haven’t had any communication with the top management of the ACB or with the chief selector.” “I’ve been trying to get hold of them for the last couple of weeks. I have also been trying to reach the Chairman, but I haven’t received any response or feedback on the selection process. This lack of communication hasn’t just affected this squad, but also the previous few squads since the Asia Cup didn’t go our way. There has been no meaningful contact at all,” he added.
Jonathan Trott hints at exit over “lack of communication”
Furthermore, when inquired about his future as the head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team, Trott clarified that if the lack of communication persists, he might have any choice but leave the position after the T20 World Cup 2026. “Well, I don’t know. I would like to open up communication with the board. I have been told that my tenure runs until the T20 World Cup, which is only a couple more months away. After that, I will need to assess whether the job description or responsibilities of the head coach have changed,” Trott said.
