Former Indian cricketer and Test captain Anil Kumble is celebrating his 55th birthday on October 17, 2025. Kumble is regarded as one of the best spinners to play for India and has been a crucial player in many of India’s famous Test wins in the 2000s. He is one of only three players in international cricket to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings along with Jim Laker from England and Ajaz Patel from New Zealand. Kumble is India’s highest wicket-taker of all-time across all formats with over 600 wickets in Tests, and 300+ wickets in the ODI format.

Anil Kumble is currently the all-time highest wicket-taker for India and the fourth highest wicket-taker in the world across all formats in international cricket. The leg spinner has taken 956 wickets in 401 matches in his international career, including 619 scalps in Tests, and 337 wickets in ODIs.
2nd Fastest to 600 Test wickets
Anil Kumble is among the six players to take more than 600 wickets in Test cricket. Apart from that, he is just behind Muttiah Muralitharan as the second fastest player to reach the milestone of 600 Test wickets. Kumble achieved the feat in his 124th Test match.
2nd best bowling figures in a Test innings
Anil Kumble is among the three players to take a 10-wicket haul in a Test innings, and also have the second best bowling figures in a Test innings. The leg spinner registered historic figures of 10/74 in a Test match against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999.
Most wickets taken LBW in Test
Anil Kumble also boasts a record for taking most number of wickets via LBW in Test cricket. Kumble has taken 156 scalps as leg before wicket in his Test career.
