On Sunday, September 28, the Indian cricket team
once again defeated arch-rivals Pakistan, but this time in the summit clash to lift their record ninth Asia Cup title. Coming into the final unbeaten, Team India continued their dominance as they defeated Pakistan by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. While the victory was hard earned, the match was once again marred with several controversies. While the win will be one to remember for the Indian side, the post-match proceedings turned in chaos which saw India refrain from accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi and the latter then refusing the protocol and denying India to receive the trophy and winners’ medals.
PM Modi congratulates India with “#OperationSindoor on games field”; PCB Chair hits back with “war”
Soon after India’s
victory, the team received several congratulatory posts, among which was one from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking to X, he captioned the post, “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”
Just minutes after his tweet, adding fuel to fire, Mohsin Naqvi responding to PM Narendra Modi’s congratulatory post, writing, “If war was your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at Pakistan’s hands. No cricket match can rewrite that truth. Dragging war into sport only exposes desperation and disgraces the very spirit of the game.”
This comes after a lot of drama which occurred on the field which even saw the Pakistan team locking them up in the dressing room for almost an hour while the PCB and ACC Chair was left stranded on the stage along with other members.
