Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to return to international cricket after seven months. Both are highly likely to be selected for Team India's upcoming ODI series against Australia down under to be played between October 19 and 25, as per Cricbuzz. BCCI is expected to select a 15-member squad for the 50-over series and the two veterans are reportedly going to feature in it. India haven’t played any ODI game since Match 9, when the Men in Blue beat New Zealand by four wickets in Champions Trophy 2025 final played in Dubai. Rohit was the player of the match in the big game as he chipped in with his 76-run knock off 83 balls.

from Test in May, this year. Earlier, in 2024, they retired from T20Is after guiding India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title triumph in June 2024. Kohli played his last competitive match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rohit served Mumbai Indians (MI) in the cash-rich league and his last outing was against PBKS in Qualifier 2 played in Ahmedabad.
Rohit expected to lead India from the front in ODI series
Rohit Sharma will aim to guide India to the OD series win against the Aussies down under. Last year, Australia lost the three-match 50-over series against Pakistan, and this time, India will also look to do the same under Rohit’s leadership. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are the only India captains who have won the series for India in Australian conditions.
Rohit, who has achieved notable success as India skipper, in the last 16 months, will be expected to add another feather to his cap. Discussing his ODI numbers in Australia, the 38-year-old has hoarded 1328 runs with five hundreds and four fifties in 30 contests. His best score in Australia came in 2016 when he racked up 171* off 163 in Perth.
