In a big development from the world of football, Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling reportedly may not be with Chelsea for long. The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) and Chelsea are in talks about both the players being outcasted by the club from their first team. Presently, players are training away from the club's first-team set-up after the head coach Enzo Maresca was clear that, at present, they are not part of his plans. The report from Football Insider also said that Raheem and Disasi are likely to remain with the West London Club until the next winter transfer window.
Although the summer transfer window is still open in Saudi Arabia, a switch to the Saudi Pro League appears unlikely for the sidelined pair. Instead, both Disasi
and Sterling are expected to stay at Stamford Bridge until at least the January window. Sterling, 30, has just under two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, valued at around £325,000 per week, while 27-year-old Disasi is tied to the club until 2029.
The fall of Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi
Raheem Sterling, who was once the top player in the football world, has witnessed a fall since his move from Manchester City to Chelsea in July 2022. The 30-year-old forward produced occasional moments of quality in his first two seasons, but Enzo Maresca relegated him to the “bomb squad” last summer, followed by a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Axel Disasi joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in August 2023. The French defender had some promising stretches with the West London side but eventually slipped down the pecking order, leading to a loan move to Aston Villa earlier this year. Like Sterling, he has now returned to Chelsea after an unimpressive loan spell.
Meanwhile, PFA is ensuring both players have the platform the practice despite not having any contact with the senior team members. It was no surprise that Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi were aware their futures at Chelsea were uncertain when the summer transfer window began. However, while Disasi turned down approaches from clubs such as Crystal Palace and West Ham United, Sterling attracted little interest in the market during the window.
