The Men’s Asia Cup 2025 concluded on Sunday, September 28 with Team India successfully defending their title with a five-wicket win over Pakistan in the summit clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. While the win was India’s third against Pakistan in this year’s edition, with it, they were crowned the champions for the ninth time.
Like the previous two matches in the continental tournament, the final too was surrounded by several controversies. While it all began from the very start of the game with Ravi Shastri interviewing Suryakumar Yadav at the toss whereas Waqar Younis handled the Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha. However, the match too had its moments, but the post-match presentation was one of a kind.
Mohsin Naqvi demands formal function for Asia Cup trophy presentation: Reports
Firstly, the Men in Green
delayed the post-match presentation ceremony by almost an hour, the Indian team too denied taking the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi - who also happens to be the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chair as well as the Minister of Interior. Seeing this, the ACC Chairman reportedly ran away with the trophy and winners’ medals, bringing in a new row.
However, according to the protocol, the ACC needs to ensure that the Asia Cup trophy reached the BCCI headquarters, but the timeline remains uncertain. But recent reports citing Cricbuzz have reported that Mohsin Naqvi has informed the organisers that the Indian team can receive the medals, but in a formal function. Although, Naqvi’s demands are unlikely to be met, but the BCCI on the other hand aims to lodge a complaint to the ICC.
