Although the Men’s Asia Cup 2025
must have culminated with India lifting their record ninth title, the controversies continue to remain in talks. The Asia Cup 2025 final, which was played between India and Pakistan, was marred with several controversies like the previous two matches. While it all began at toss where Ravi Shastri interviewed Suryakumar Yadav, Waqar Younis handled Salman Ali Agha in a rare instance. Not only this, as the match unfolded several things came on the front. The talks hit the roof in the post-match presentation ceremony which saw the Men in Green take the field after almost an hour, whereas the Indian team denied accepting the trophy from the ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. However, the ACC Chairman reportedly walked away
with the trophy and winners’ medals, it continues to have overshadowed the on-field performances.
What Chairman sir is doing is absolutely right: Mohammad Yousuf backs Mohsin Naqvi after trophy antics
While the controversy stands at one place, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has expressed support for Naqvi. Speaking to Pakistani channel Samaa TV, Mohammad Yousuf said, “What Chairman sir (Mohsin Naqvi) is doing is absolutely right. He has taken the correct stand. India should have taken that trophy at that moment. According to ACC and ICC rules, he was standing there as ACC chief, and the trophy should have been handed through his hands only.”
“You didn’t take it at that moment, so what’s the hurry now? You should have gone and collected it from his office if you remembered that you had to take the trophy. At the ground, you were busy making your films. I said it that day too - they are not coming out of the filmy world. This is sports, this is cricket; movies won’t be playing here. In movies, there are retakes and all, but becoming a hero in movies is a different thing. You are playing a genuine sport here, and now you are saying you want the trophy.”
As thing stand at the moment, the trophy reportedly rests in the ACC office in UAE with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials continuously in talks to retrieve it and get it to India.
