On Sunday, November 2, the Indian women’s cricket team etched history as they went on to lift maiden Cricket World Cup, beating South Africa in the summit clash of the ICC Women’s CWC 2025 in Navi Mumbai.
After being put to bat first, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India Women posted 298 runs at the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 50 overs, courtesy a 78-ball 87-run knock from Shafali Verma and key contributions from Smriti Mandhana (45) and Deepti Sharma (58).
In their run-chase, however, the hosts looked in a state of bother with Laura Wolvaardt scoring a crucial 101, but all-rounder Deepti Sharma proved to be the wrecker in chief, picking five wickets in her 9.3 overs, along with Shafali Verma, who picked two whereas Shree Charani got one to her name as India restricted South Africa at 246.
MP government announces INR 1 Cr prize money for CC 2025 winner Kranti Goud
Among the bowlers, Renuka Singh Thakur, Kranti Goud, Amanjot Kaur and Radha Yadav could not get their names on the wicket list, but were crucial in India’s title-winning campaign. As a part of their contributions, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced a reward sum of INR 1 Crore to the daughter of Chhatarpur, Krant Goud, who finished with nine wickets in eight matches while bowling at the economy of 5.73.
“I want to congratulate everyone for the way the daughter of our state and the daughters of the country performed brilliantly in cricket last night. Madhya Pradesh’s daughter Kranti Gaud was also part of the women’s World Cup-inning team. I want to congratulate Kranti and give her an incentive of INR 1 Crore from the state government. I announce to give INR 1 Crore to Kranti, the daughter of Chhatarpur,” said CM Mohan Yadav, as quoted by Economic Times.
Notably, Goud's stand-out performance in the Women’s CWC 2025 campaign came against Pakistan Women, where she picked up three wickets in her 10-over spell, conceding 20 runs at an economy of 2.00. Her brilliant spell with the ball also helped her win the Player of the Match award in that game.
