In the fourth game of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 between South Africa and England at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium,Guwahati, the latter claimed a 10-wicket win and accumulated two crucial points. At the toss, England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt emerged victorious and elected to field first. In the initial overs of the match, Linsey Smith got rid of skipper Laura Woolvardt and Tazmin Brits. After the fall of both openers, another top-order batter Sune Luus got cleaned up by Lauren Bell in the fifth over. In the crunch situation, Marianne Kapp and Anneke Bosch also failed to hold their nerves and went back to the dugout.
In the first powerplay, the Protea side lost their five batters at a score of 38 in 10.1 overs. On the first delivery
of the 11th over, Chloe Tyron fell against Nat Sciver-Brunt after scoring only two off 10. England's bowlers looked relentless and folded South Africa on 69 in 20.4 overs. Except for wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta, no South Africa batter could score in double digits. Kimsey Smith picked up 3/7 figures in her four-over spell while Lauren Bell got one wicket. Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, and Charlie Dean got two wickets each.
England chase down mere 70-run target with ease
Chasing the target, England openers Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones exuded confidence and took their team home in 14.1 overs. Jones notched up 40* off 50 while Beaumont scored 18* off 35. Smith became the Player of the Match (POTM) for her stunning bowling display.
South Africa fans will expect their team to make a comeback in their next match against New Zealand in Indore on October 6. On the other hand, England's next contest is against Bangladesh in Guwahati on October 7.
