Legend Brian Lara has questioned West Indies’ players' commitment to cricket. The Caribbean team has played a poor brand of cricket in recent times. In the opening Test against India in Ahmedabad, the Windies
surrendered to the hosts within three days as they accepted an innings and 140-run defeat. Following the crushing loss, the Windies team will have to play quality cricket to get the better of the hosts in the second Test to be played in Delhi and conclude the series in a stalemate. However, the task won’t be simple for the visitors as they are downbeat while the home side are filled with confidence.
Noting shambolic performances from the West Indies, Lara has said whether West Indies players are passionate about serving the team as their predecessors were. “If you have cricket at heart, you’ll find a way. The question is, do they really want to play for the West Indies?” asked Lara.
Brian Lara compares current Windies stalwarts to legendary Caribbean players
Lara also went on to compare the current Windies players to legendary figures such as Vivian Richards, Clive Lloyd, and Malcolm Marshall. Brian said the legends lacked facilities during that time but there was zeal in them to do big for the Windies team. “We didn’t have better facilities 30 or 40 years ago. Viv Richards didn’t bat on better practice pitches. The passion was different; that’s what drove us,” added Lara,
Before the India tour, West Indies recorded a 2-1 loss against the associate side Nepal in the three-match T20I series. The Caribbean side will play the do-or-die match against India from October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
