During the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025 match, the on-field umpire Sarah Dambanevana survived a massive scare at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Friday, October 10. On the last ball of
the 45th over of the New Zealand innings, left-arm spinner Nahida Akter bowled a slower delivery, which the right-handed batter Maddy Green ran down the track and got to the pitch of it before belting it straight down the ground.
The strike was so powerful that Nahida Akter didn’t have any time to get anywhere near the ball to catch it while the on-field umpire had to move out of the way, which she luckily did in a nick of time to not get hit by it. Ultimately, the ball ended up whistling away to the boundary rope, giving four valuable runs to Maddy Green during the 25 off 28 with three boundaries to her name.

While New Zealand weren’t quite at their best as a batting unit, they managed to get a competitive total of 227/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday got into the 60s each, and most importantly, they shared a vital stand of 112 runs for the third wicket after the White Ferns lost three top order wickets in quick succession within the first 11 overs of their innings.
In pursuit of the 228-run target, as of this writing, Bangladesh are in deep trouble, reaching 66/7 in 23 overs with Fahima Khatun (12* off 25) and Rabeya Khan (0* off 1) at the crease.
