Sanju Samson played a vital role in India’s record-extending ninth Asia Cup title win. The wicketkeeper batter built a 57-run stand with Tilak Varma for the fourth wicket in the final against Pakistan.
His 24-run batting effort against the Green Army will always be remembered by Team India supporters as it came in the situation when the Men in Blue lost three batters at a score of 20. India won that game by five wickets in hand and two balls left but following that, defending champions declined to take the trophy from PCB and ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi. The PCB official also looked adamant and took the trophy and winners’ medals back with himself.
However, Team India’s level of joy didn’t reduce a bit as the victorious squad celebrated their success without the trophy. Suryakumar Yadav was seen recreating Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup 2024 celebration and also won the hearts of Team India’s supporters. After nine days of the famous title win, Samson appeared in CEAT Cricket Awards 2025 in Mumbai and gave his views on the controversy. He said, “It was a bit strange, but we actually have a very positive environment in our dressing room. Even if we don't have anything, we have to celebrate that we have everything in our hands. So actually that's what we did."
