Pakistan is currently hosting the world Test champions South Africa in an all-format tour, consisting of two-match Test series, three T20Is followed by as many ODIs. The tour commenced on Sunday, October 12 with Pakistan hosting the Protea Men in the first Test at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. For the unversed, Pakistan skipper Shan Masood won the toss and elected to bat first.
The home side however did not have a start which was expected as they lost opening batter Abdullah Shafique early in the innings. After his dismissal, the skipper joined in Imam-ul-Haq and went up to stitch a 161-run stand for the second wicket before falling to Prenelan Subrayen at the score of 76 off 147 deliveries.
Shaun Pollock mistakenly calls Shan Masood “captain of India”; goes viral
During his stay in the middle, former Protean cricketer
and one of the legends of the game, Shaun Pollock was involved in a massive goof up. With Masood batting at 62 off 114 deliveries, the legendary all-rounder made a hilarious blunder on-air while commentating on Day 1 of the first Test. After the 39th over, Pollock saw a fan holding a banner which read ‘King Babar’.
At this, he expressed disbelief at the fact that the crowd wanted their skipper out to see Babar Azam bat. While making this statement, he mistakenly called out Shan Masood “captain of India”. “There’s the reason why they were upset. I can’t believe they would want Shan Masood, the captain of India to be out in order just to get Babar to the crease. You need to have a word with some of these supporters,” Pollock said on commentary.

However, just shortly after this incident, Masood was dismissed lbw by Prenelan Subrayen in the 48th over of the Pakistan first innings. His dismissal eventually made way for Babar Azam which also saw the crowd go berserk as they welcomed him with chants of “Babar, Babar..”
