Zinedine Zidane, one of the greatest footballers of all-time, the FIFA World Cup winner with France, took the world of coaching by storm with Real Madrid, securing them three straight UEFA Champions League
(UCL) titles from 2016 to 2018 apart from a couple of La Liga victories. The 53-year-old left the Galacticos for the first-time in 2018 before returning the following season in 2019 and staying at the club until 2021, and since his departure, he hasn’t been a part of the coaching scene in football.
But now, in a major development, Zinedine Zidane revealed his desire to return back to the coaching scene very soon, and his preferred destination is the French national team. Currently, Didier Deschamps is coaching France and it’s the build-up year to the FIFA World Cup in 2026, but it is expected that he will leave the coveted job irrespective of any result for the national team, which could open the door for Zinedine Zidane.
The comments from the French football legend about his next coaching destination came at an event organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport website, stating that while he isn’t in any rush to be a part of any team, it will eventually happen for him. He was quoted as saying, “I’m sure I’ll get back into coaching. I’m not saying it’s going to happen now, but what I want one day is to coach the national team.”
he most important thing is to have a passion for football: Zinedine Zidane
Notably, since leaving Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane has been a hot commodity in the market, reportedly turning down many opportunities, including the likes of Bayern Munich and US national team over the years. He also remarked about what makes him tick as a coach, “The most important thing is to have a passion for football and to want to pass on something to your players, what you have in you, deep within you.”
“A coach has an important role in the success of his team. In my opinion his energy and desire are 80 percent of whether things go well,” Zinedine Zidane further added.
