LSG faced a humiliating defeat on April 1 as they lost against the Capitals while defending 141 runs in the second innings. The team lost quick wickets in the form of a bizarre run of Rishabh Pant in the first innings, and their powepacked batting order of Markram, Pooran and Marsh couldn't perform for the team. The team miserably managed to post 141 runs for the Capitals to chase.
Shami took the first wicket in the first ball of the second innings of KL Rahul. He was also supported by Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav, who took quick wickets and made the score 26/4 in the powerplay itself. However, the partnership between Tristan Stubbs and impact player Sameer Rizvi secured the victory for the Delhi Capitals.
Just like any other LSG match, the owner
of the Super Giants was again caught in controversy as he was seen talking to the skipper, Rishabh Pant, post the match. The owner, Sanjiv Goenka, was once again trolled for interfering in the team management. Netizens also believed that things are not that well between the owner and the skipper.
The LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka, later put up a post on X (formerly, Twitter) extending his support for the team and encouraging the team not to lose hope and look forward to the next match.
“This is a long season, and moments like these are part of building something meaningful. I have full confidence in our captain and the team to respond with strength. To our fans, thank you for your support at Ekana today, we will come back stronger. The story of @LucknowIPL this season is far from written.”, the post read.
When everyone thought this was the end of the controversy, things took a shocking turn as Lalit Modi retweeted Goenka’s post slamming him for bringing disrepute to IPL.
“I agree on one thing I agree with ONE STATEMENT YOU BOLDLY MAKE - The last sentence. You materially and consistently and concisely bring @IPL into disrepute. You will be banned. For your sake resign. And stay out of the stadium. As you are poison to the game it’s integrity and its ecosystem its fans and importantly the PLAYERS. You are toxic. Stay in your factories. You are my brother in law. But Game comes first. Not you,” the post read,
Modi slams Goenka for discrediting him for IPL’s success
This is the second time Modi has slammed Goenka; the first one came when Goenka celebrated the record-breaking valuations of Rajasthan Royals ($1.63 billion) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru ($1.78 billion). He credited the "architecture of the IPL" and the "vision of Jay Shah" for this growth but made no mention of the league's founder, Lalit Modi. Modi called Goenka a "clown" on social media, accusing him of "memory loss" and having "zero knowledge" of the league's origins.: Modi even stated he wished Goenka's brother, Harsh Goenka, owned the franchise instead, calling him a "true cricket fan".
