After the Indian cricket team suffered a drubbing at the hands of South Africa in the first Test in Kolkata, they will hope to revive in the second Test, scheduled to be played from November 22 to 26 at the Barsapara
Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. While the Men in Blue will look to reshape themselves, they will also look to put their combinations right as they sweat on skipper Shubman Gill’s fitness.
Notably, Gill suffered a neck injury on the second day of the first Test at the Eden Gardens and made his way out of the field after playing just three deliveries. However, he was later admitted to a hospital for further examination and released the following day after India’s 30-run defeat on Sunday, November 16.
Shubman Gill to travel to Guwahati; participation still in doubts
While he is continuously being monitored by the medical team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday, November 19 shared a positive update around the top-order batter. In a post on X, BCCI wrote, “Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025.”
They further informed, “He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly.” While this brings some positive news in the Indian camp, but the Men in Blue will not aim to risk his health. Seeing this, they have also recalled Nitish Kumar Reddy, who reportedly joined the side in Kolkata on Tuesday, November 18.
