In the opening match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025, the Indian cricket team found themselves in trouble after being put into bat first by SrI Lanka at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, September 30. After the completion of 25 overs in the rain-curtailed contest, India had reached 120/2 before they lost their four key batters for four runs in just two overs, including the likes of Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and Richa Ghosh.
It signalled the arrival of Amanjot Kaur at the crease, in at No. 8, and she managed to form a key stand of 100 runs in just 95 balls and counting with Deepti Sharma for the seventh wicket, to bring India out of shaky waters. The right-handed batter completed her
maiden Women’s ODI (WODI) fifty in just 45 balls during the partnership at the venue where rain interrupted play on multiple occasions, reducing it to a 48-overs-a-side contest.

As of this writing, India have reached 226/6 in 43 overs with Amanjot Kaur (57* off 55) and Deepti Sharma (45* off 44) at the crease, aiming to put their team in a strong position in the last five overs of the innings.
