Marc Guehi, the England and Crystal Palace defender, has reportedly set his sights on Real Madrid next summer, telling his advisors about wanting to join the Spanish club instead of Liverpool in 2026. After Crystal Palace decided to not give the 25-year-old the green light to join the Merseyside club for £35 million despite undergoing medical, at the behest of manager Oliver Glasner, many thought that the move would be a foregone conclusion next summer, but it seemingly isn’t going to be the case.
Notably, while Marc Guehi was left angry at the decision of the Crystal Palace management, he has managed the entire situation like a professional, making his return to the playing XI for the club, who are currently unbeaten after their first five matches
in the Premier League. As per the report from Mirror Sport, the number one choice of the Englishman is to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer despite interest from not only Liverpool, but also Chelsea and a few other major clubs in Europe.
Marc Guehi can sign pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid in January next year
With that, Liverpool and their manager Arne Slot find themselves in a tricky spot, especially with Ibrahima Konate currently in the final year of his contract, and an apt replacement for him would be quite hard to find. At the same time, Real Madrid are now set to enter negotiations with Marc Guehi, and he could possibly sign a pre-contract agreement with them in January, to fulfil his desire to be at the Los Blancos next summer.
Slot talked about the Guehi deal collapse earlier this month, and his comments read, as per Sky Sports, “For us it was of course a disappointment, for the player I assume, as well, because he was expecting to come to us. I try to put myself in the player’s shoes, but that can happen with a player from us as well, maybe a player wanted to leave but in the end couldn’t because we couldn’t get a player we wanted, that happens in football many times….”
Moreover, Marc Guehi is excited to play abroad and Madrid could be an ideal place for him to take the next major step in his football career, especially with the prospect of potentially being a teammate of Ibrahima Konate, who is also one of the targets of the Spanish club.
