The Mumbai Indians batter Sherfane Rutherford looked surprised with the support that RCB received at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite the game being an away game for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the RCB fans expressed their support in huge numbers and they made their side feel like home. Sherfane Rutherford will have felt at a moment that they were playing in RCB’s home ground.
"A bit surprised with so much support for RCB - I think it was for Virat Kohli, he has done so much for the Indian team," said Sherfane Rutherford. He claimed that the support may be because Virat Kohli is playing for the side as he has been a key part of the Indian setup for more than a decade.
RCB’s dominant all-round display and Kohli-led fan frenzy turn Mumbai clash into a virtual home game
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru were coming off a loss against the Rajasthan
Royals as they struggled with the bat and then the game was taken away by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. RCB had a point to prove as the defending champions were defeated in an away game for the first time since 2024. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli were off to a staggering start in the powerplay as they were simply smashing the bowlers for fun. The most expensive over of the power play came off the bowling off Mitchell Santner, who gave away 22 runs. Rajat Patidar and Tim David played a blinder of an innings in the latter phase of the game to take RCB to a total of 241.
The bowling unit of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a bit of a change as Jacob Duffy was brought in for Josh Hazlewood. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton seemed to get the better off the bowlers in the powerplay but the RCB bowlers managed to pull things back. Suyash Sharma dismissed Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma in the same over and RCB regained momentum. The spin duo of Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma were clinical with their bowling as they picked some crucial wickets and bowled at a decent economy rate. Rasikh Salam was used as the impact player and he also did a good job with the ball in hand. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed to win by 17 runs and got to their 3rd win of the season.
Phil Salt was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning knock in the 1st innings. RCB will be happy that they are back to winning ways in the tournament and they will be happy with the form of Rasikh Salam as well. With the addition of a decent 3rd seamer to their bowling unit, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be confident to get a win against the Lucknow Supergiants on Wednesday.
