Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona winger, has been ruled out of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2025-26 clash for the Catalan giants against Newcastle United at the St. James’ Park on Thursday, September 18. The 18-year-old isn't part of the Barcelona squad for the trip to England after missing their La Liga clash against Valencia on the weekend at home due to a groin issue, which they won 6-0.
Ahead of their meeting versus Valencia on the weekend, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was critical about the number of minutes played by Lamine Yamal for Spain during the international break. He competed for 70 minutes in Spanish colours against Bulgaria during a 3-0 win before following it up with a 73-minute appearance in the 6-0 win over Turkey in the World
Cup qualifiers, both held away from home.
Frenkie de Jong cleared to play against Newcastle United after missing out on Valencia clash
Apart from Lamine Yamal, the likes of left-back Alejandro Balde and midfielder Gavi both from Spain, are also absent from the Barcelona squad for their trip to Tyneside due to hamstring and knee injuries respectively. While Frenkie de Jong missed out on playing against Valencia on the weekend after competing for Netherlands in the international break, he is available for selection for their upcoming UCL 2025-26 clash against Newcastle United.
Barcelona reached the semi-finals of the tournament last season where they lost to Inter Milan, who could only end up being the runners-up at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Below is the Barcelona squad for the Newcastle United clash in the UCL 2025-26:
Araujo, Cubarsi, Ferran, Pedri, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Joan Garcia, Rashford, Christensen, Fermin, M. Casado, Gerard Martin, Olmo, De Jong, Bernal, Kounde, Eric, Szczesny, Jofre, Roony, A. Fernandez, and Kochen.
