Indian skipper Shubman Gillhas reportedly been ruled out of the second and the final Test match against South Africa that is scheduled to be played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22nd to 26th. Gill suffered a neck sprain while batting during the first Test match in Kolkata and didn’t come out to be in the second innings of the match. Now, as reported by NDTV Sports, Gill has been ruled out of the second Test match. In his place, vice-captain Rishabh Pant can be seen taking charge as skipper in Guwahati.
However, the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement regarding Shubman Gill’s availability for the second Test. The Indian Cricket Board released an official statement regarding Indian Test skipper which read “Team
India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly.”
Sai Sudharsan likely to bat at number three in Shubman Gill’s absence
As Shubman Gill is almost ruled out of the second Test against South Africa, young batter Sai Sudharsan can be seen taking on the field in Guwahati and bat at number three in Gill’s absence. Sudharsan is a part of the Indian squad for the ongoing Test series against but didn’t get a chance in the first Test in Kolkata.
Now, he can get a place in the playing XI with Shubman Gill getting ruled out due to injury. Sai Sudharsan has played five Test matches in his career so far amassing 273 runs at an average of 30.33 with two half-centuries.
