Star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana created a new record in the ongoing Women’s World Cup clash against South Africa Women at ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The opening batter could only score 23 runs off 32 balls as the hosts are batting first in the ongoing clash. Despite this, the left-hander achieved a magnificent feat in the ODI format surpassing legends like Belinda Clark, Debbie Hockley, and Amy Satterthwaite.
Notably, Smriti Mandhana broke the records for most runs in the Women’s ODI in a calendar year. With her 23-run knock, Mandhana has amassed 982 runs from 17 ODI matches in the year 2025 so far. With this, the Indian opener has amassed most runs by any batter in the Women’s ODI in a calendar year. She surpassed
former Australian cricketer Belinda Clark who scored 970 runs in the year 1997. Meanwhile, South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt is in the third sport as she scored 882 ODI runs in 2022.
India Women in tricky situation while batting first vs South Africa Women
Talking about the ongoing Women’s World Cup clash between India and South Africa, the hosts are currently in a tricky situation as they have lost six wickets so far under 150 runs. Coming to bat first, the Women in Blue got a decent start as Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal put up an opening partnership of 55 runs in 10.2 overs. Mandhana got out after scoring 23 runs off 32 balls while Rawal scored 37 runs off 56 balls hitting five boundaries.
However, after the partnership was broken, India Women kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 102/6 after 26 overs. Currently, Richa Ghosh and Amanjot Kaur are taking the innings forward guiding India Women to a competitive total.
