India continued their dominant run against West Indies in Test cricket as they ended up winning the second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi by seven wickets to clinch the two-match Test series by 2-0. After taking a lead of 270 runs in the first innings and enforcing follow-on, the Indian bowlers could have finished the game on the this day but the Windies showed a great fight in the second innings as India had to bat in the fourth innings. With the help of centuries by John Campbell and Shai Hope, West Indies took the game to day four.
After that, Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales added 79 runs for the 10th wicket as West Indies were bowled out for 390 runs in the second innings giving India a target of 121 runs to win. Although India chased
the target easily in the first session on day five, but the fans are praising the visitors for putting up a great fight and keeping the Test match alive till the final day. Apart from that, Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir also made a visit to West Indies’ dressing room after the match and shared a motivating speech for the players.
World cricket needs West Indies cricket: Gautam Gambhir
After the end of the second Test match, Gautam Gambhir visited West Indies’ dressing room on request of their Head Coach Darren Sammy and heaped praise on the visitors for showing a great fight on the field. The video of the interaction was shared by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on their social media handles.
“I think the way you played in the second innings of this Test match is probably the template that can truly take West Indies cricket forward—the way you all fought, from 1 to 11. For me, in a team sport, the most important thing is that every contribution needs to be appreciated. It's easy sometimes to focus only on the centuries and five-wicket hauls. But the players who are scoring hundreds and taking five-fors usually don’t need as much support from the coaches or support staff. It’s the small contributions that really make the team. Big contributions only make the headlines,” Gambhir said in a video.
“And lastly, guys, I want to say one thing, something I’ve always believed i,n West Indies cricket doesn’t need world cricket. World cricket needs West Indies cricket. Remember that. A strong, solid Test team is the foundation of a great cricketing nation. It’s not the other way around. So when you wear that jersey, understand that you have the opportunity to do something truly special, it's something that not many players in the T20 circuit will ever get the chance to do,” he further added.
