Chelsea are reportedly the newest club in the Premier League to join the race to sign the Crystal Palace and England defender, Marc Guehi, next summer on a free transfer. After failing to complete a reported £35 million move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool on deadline day of the recently concluded summer transfer window earlier this month, Marc Guehi is currently in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, which will expire on June 30, 2026.
As per the report published in Football Insider, Mick Brown, the former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout, told them exclusively about how Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca feels that Marc Guehi is an upgrade on his current centre-back options. Notably, Marc Guehi was actually a part of Chelsea before
leaving them to join Crystal Palace in 2021 in a deal reportedly worth £18 million, where he established himself into a top tier defender.
Marc Guehi's transfer to Liverpool collapsed on deadline day earlier this month
Before the deal with Liverpool collapsed due to the late intervention of Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, Marc Guehi had undergone medical to join them. Glasner told the club hierarchy to stop Guehi from joining the Merseyside club without signing a proper replacement for him or else he would quit his job as the manager of the club with immediate effect, which left a sour taste in the mouth of the player as per many reports in the media.
Apart from Chelsea and Liverpool, some of the other clubs interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace include Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich. Mick Brown was quoted as saying on the latest development, “It’s a huge bargain if you can get a player of Guehi’s quality on a free transfer. Chelsea are the latest team I’ve heard are looking to make a move because he came through their academy so that could be a bit of an advantage to them.”
