In the second match of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 tournament from Group B, young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a breathtaking 32-ball hundred for India A against the United Arab Emirates
(UAE), the third fastest by an Indian. At the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha, Qatar, the 14-year-old didn’t spare any of the UAE bowlers, pacers or spinners alike on his way to scoring 144 runs off just 42 balls with 11 fours and a whopping 15 sixes.
The carnage began in the first over of the Indian innings after captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first with Priyansh Arya hitting a four and a six on Mohammed Faraazuddin but he got run out soon after. In the second over, on either side of his opening partner’s dismissal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was dropped on the first ball of the match, hit a four and a six on the bowling of left-arm pacer Muhammad Rohid.
Left-arm spinner Aayan Afzal Khan found himself in the midst of the Suryavanshi storm, getting smashed for 16 in three balls in the third over of the India A innings. The left-handed batter collected 20 runs in the fifth over bowled by Muhammad Jawadullah after taking him down for three fours and a six and then, he completed his fifty in just 17 balls in front of a lot of cheering Indian fans.
Suryavanshi hit four sixes in a row against Harshit Kaushik in Doha
Faraazuddin bore the brunt of Suryavanshi in the seventh over, conceding 14 off three balls before Jawadullah conceded three sixes in a row in the ninth over of the India A batting effort. The young sensation completed his hundred in just 32 balls in the 10th over of the innings after hitting a four on the bowling of Muhammad Arfan before tearing into Harshit Kaushik in the next over, hitting four sixes in a row before a four.
Ultimately, Mohammed Faraazuddin got the wicket of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, having him caught on the cover boundary rope by Ahmed Tariq but not before he tore through the UAE bowling lineup. India A captain Jitesh Sharma batted splendidly after the fall of the 14-year-old’s wicket, scoring unbeaten 83 off 32 with eight fours and six sixes, to help his team reach 297/4 in their allotted 20 overs against the UAE.
