India’s Sheetal Devi broke into record books at the Para World Archery Championships on Saturday, September 27. She defeated Turkey’s Oznur Cure Girdi by 146-143 to bag the gold medal in the women’s compound individual segment in Gwangju, South Korea. With this success, Sheetal amassed her third medal at the Championships. Earlier, she won a mixed team bronze medal with her ally Toman Kumar after getting the better of Great Britain’s Jodie Grinham and Nathan MacQueen by 152-149 figures. Following the mixed team bronze medal, Sheetal and Sarita achieved silver medal after the loss against Turkiye in the final.
In the singles final against Girdi, Sheetal looked calm throughout the match at the Para World Archery Championships 2025. Following the tied
scores of 29-29, she launched an attack on Oznur and notched up a hat-trick of 10s in the second end to grab the lead. Sheetal claimed the victory in that end by 30-27. The third end concluded in a stalemate with 29-29 figures. In the fourth end, Sheetal fell short by a single point but overall she maintained her advantage of 116-114. In the final end, the 18-year-old displayed her dominance and landed three perfect arrows on 30 to win the coveted gold medal.
Sheetal-Sarita duo looked impressive in the compound women’s open team final
In the final of the compound women’s open team, Sheetal Devi and Sarita Adhana looked superb but were outplayed by Turkey’s pair Oznur Cure Girdi and Bursa Fatma Un by 148-152 figures. The Indian duo kicked off the contest confidently and also ended the first end by 38-37.
However, both Turkish players didn’t lose hope and made a comeback in the second end with three shots of 10s. Following the second end, the scores were 76-all. In the third end, Girdi and Fatma held their nerves and bagged a four point lead which eventually helped them emerge victorious.
